This week the staff and participants have been celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights. Diwali is India’s biggest festival of the year. People put lights out in their home and celebrate the New Year. It is a festive time that is accompanied by spending time with each other and feasts. It is the most important festival of the year and last 5 days. Everyday is celebrated by a different rituals and significances and the preparations for these typically begin weeks to days beforehand.

Today at Evergreen to celebrate Diwali, the participants gave speeches and put on little skits. One of these skits was Ram Leela. This one was a skit enacted by participants that showed Shiri Ram, and Seeta returning back to Ayodhya.

Tomorrow everyone will be going to the Temple to pray and celebrate. This will be followed by lunch there.
